This turnkey remodeling project began with a house swap. A young family of five needed room to relax and entertain in style. In a twist of fate, they traded their smaller home for a larger, but dated 2,836 square foot home near East Bayou Parkway in Lafayette. Sarah James Moss of MOSS MANOR was hired to select and source all new interior and exterior finishes and furnishings, and to supply and manage all construction materials and installers from start to finish.

The clients commissioned a full-scale remodel that would appeal to their contemporary palette. Frequent entertainers with three young children, they required design selections that would withstand an active lifestyle and remain within a reasonable budget. Bold but sensible materials were chosen by the designer to create a sophisticated urbane family home.

A monochromatic scheme with pops of color sets the tone for the cosmopolitan interior. Low volatile organic compound paints in warm shades of gray and white coordinate with engineered walnut and full body porcelain floors. New doors throughout were painted espresso black, and updated with lever-style hardware. Updated lighting selections compliment sleek yet inviting furnishings in practical materials such as reinforced leather, stainless steel, natural stone and glass.

GRAND POINTE RESIDENCE

The ground-up new construction project began with a vacant lot and a set of house plans. Sarah James Moss of MOSS MANOR was hired to select and source all exterior and interior finishes and furnishings, and to assist in overseeing their installation from start to finish. The client – a father of a seven-year-old son, part-time real estate investor and contractor, and frequent entertainer – sought to have a functional yet high-style contemporary home that would accommodate the needs of his busy single-parent household, while also affording resale value. Adhering to a practical budget and choosing sensible materials took precedent, while bold design elements were a welcomed retreat from the typical speculation home.

A monochromatic palette sets the tone for both the exterior and interior of the 2,700 square foot home. Shades of gray and white on expansive interior walls and dark chocolate on the stairwell and doors coordinate with the smoky solid walnut floors throughout much of the home. Furnishings were chosen to be sleek yet inviting, with practical masculine materials such as reinforced leather and stainless steel.

MODERN FARMHOUSE

42 photos This turnkey remodeling project began when Monique Sanchez inherited her childhood home. The heir and her husband, Jonathan, sought a fresh vision for the dated 80's ranch house. Designer Sarah James Moss of Moss Manor was tasked with reinventing the inherited home from top to bottom with an industrial modern farmhouse aesthetic.

The clients required practical design selections that would withstand an active lifestyle and remain within a reasonable budget. The designer was commissioned to design and manage a full-scale remodel of the 2,700 square foot home in the time constraints of a four month period. From floor plans to finishing touches, the designer selected, sourced and managed all materials and subcontractors.

Prior to the project, the home had not been updated in more than thirty years. Well-worn finishes include the original sheet vinyl and carpeted floors, dark wall paneling and wallpaper, and outdated fixtures in the kitchen and baths. The home's staircase to a second story loft was left incomplete. The large floor plan left much to be desired due to an overabundance of doorways and lack of storage.

The clients had an uninviting, overgrown strip of land between their existing homesite and neighboring property. They sought to reclaim the area for a welcoming, functional space for frequent poolside entertaining. The project features a semi-enclosed 550 square feet pergola with 8" western red cedar columns, 12” beams, and tongue and groove ceiling. Eco-friendly composite wood was chosen for the decking, which is built around two mature existing palm trees. Effort was taken to ensure maximum use of the area and provide seamless integration with the existing structure. The design team chose conservatively priced, quality materials that would withstand local climate conditions and last for many years to come.
